RT.3b - IEC 61850 – First practical experiences with the new communication standard

Background

For some years the new international communication standard IEC 61850 for substation communication is implemented. The goal was and still is to get ride of individual national or manufacture specified communication protocols. Thus to make protection and control equipment of different manufactures compatible with each other. In the meantime most manufactures offer first components according to IEC 61850 and many utilities have carried through first pilot projects with the new standard.

Issues Addressed

The round table focuses on the practical experiences gathered from pilot projects with the new standard all over Europe from both sides - manufactures as well as utilities. Benefits as well as problems occurring in practical implementations will be discussed.
